Utility golf carts can be used for all manner of purposes where transportation of people or things is required - from patrolling large grounds to moving from one end of a movie set to another, from farms to airports and from sports to business, utility golf carts uses are endless.

As such, there are a variety of models available. The most basic could be the small personal cart, with a single seat and a shopping basket on the front, ideal for the elderly or less able bodied to pop to the grocery store. One up from this is the utility golf carts which can be used to collect and move garden clippings or other little jobs around the larger home.

At the opposite end of the scale are the multi-seated, 4-wheel drive carts or those with trailer boxes on the back.

The utility golf carts that look more like miniature 4-wheel drive vehicles may be used for similar purposes, for example, a park ranger on rough territory may use one of these carts to move around the land.

Utility golf carts are often used in the workplace. Where the workplace is a large area that may need to be covered quickly, the utility golf cart is an ideal solution. Two or four seat carts allow more than one staff member to be transported together, or something large or heavy can be moved easily too. The utility golf cart for warehouses or industrial areas may be equipped with tipping platforms on the back.

In 2001, there was an instance where a 15 year old golf course worker was killed after the utility golf cart he was operating overturned. As a result, some recommendations were made on the use of utility golf carts:

Utility golf carts should be equipped with rollover protection structures (ROPS) and seat belts. Workers under 16 years of age should not operate motorized vehicles and a warning label should be prominently displayed in the vehicle to say it should not be operated by anyone under the age of 16.
